Women's Health Q & A

What is women’s health?

Women’s health services focus on the changing physical, sexual, and reproductive health needs of adolescent and adult women.

Comprehensive Primary Care specializes in diagnosing and treating a variety of women’s health conditions. They also value preventive care to reduce a woman’s risk for cervical cancer, menopause complications, and other health concerns.

Women over 40 and those with risk factors for breast cancer can also receive a referral for routine diagnostic mammograms.

What women’s health services are available?

Comprehensive Primary Care offers a wide variety of women’s health services, including:

  • Pelvic exams
  • Pap smears
  • Breast exams
  • Vaccinations
  • Birth control counseling
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing

Our team also discusses your lifestyle, your diet, and other factors that influence your health. In addition, we can screen for mental and emotional health issues, like depression and anxiety, and evaluate your stress levels.

Your visit is also an excellent time to address any concerns about your health, such as irregular or heavy periods, pelvic pain, or urinary incontinence. You may need an ultrasound or other diagnostic testing to identify fibroids, endometriosis, or other gynecologic conditions.

What happens during a women’s health evaluation?

During a women’s health evaluation, a provider performs a women’s wellness exam that includes a physical and pelvic exam. The pelvic exam allows them to assess the health of your reproductive organs and your vagina to identify potential health issues.

Our team may also collect samples of cells from your cervix during a Pap smear to test for precancerous changes that increase your risk for cervical cancer. If you’re sexually active, you may also need testing for STDs like gonorrhea, human papillomavirus (HPV), and hepatitis.

Our providers can provide vaccinations against contagious diseases, including the seasonal flu and HPV in adolescent girls. If you need birth control, they offer counseling services to determine which method is the best option for you.

You can also access information to help you improve your nutrition, incorporate more exercise into your diet, and better manage stress. Our team provides personalized weight loss treatments to help you lose weight safely and reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and other chronic health issues.
