Primary Care Q & A

What is primary care?

Primary care focuses on the comprehensive health care needs of an individual. These include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, disease prevention, and patient education services that help you live a long, healthy, high-quality life.

Comprehensive Primary Care offers primary care services for adolescents and adults. The offices are fully equipped with the latest diagnostic technologies to diagnose unexplained pain and other symptoms when you’re not feeling well.

We also offer annual physicals and preventive healthcare screenings to identify early signs of diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses.

When would I need a primary care appointment?

You should schedule a physical annually, even if you’re feeling well. An annual physical allows our providers to evaluate your overall health and track any changes from one year to the next.  You can also schedule sports and school physicals that meet the requirements of schools and other organizations.

Comprehensive Primary Care also offers sick visit appointments for injuries or illnesses. They use diagnostic testing to identify the underlying cause of your symptoms. On-site testing services include electrocardiograms (EKGs), stressing testing, flu testing, and blood work.

If you have existing health conditions like thyroid disorders, asthma, or diabetes, you may need more frequent primary care appointments to ensure your condition is well-controlled.

What can I expect during a primary care visit?

During your initial primary care visit, our team spends time discussing your health history, existing health, and any concerns you have about your physical and mental health. They review your medical history and perform a physical exam.

Considering your personal and family history, our team may request blood work or other diagnostic tests to evaluate your risk factors for certain diseases. If you’re taking medications for an existing condition, you may need additional testing to ensure they are working well.

Our providers can also discuss strategies to improve your health, such as changing your diet, boosting your physical activity, and losing weight. They can recommend weight loss treatments to help you achieve a healthy body weight and reduce your risk factors for chronic disease.

If you need updates to your vaccinations or the seasonal flu shot, you can receive them during your visit.
